“The Prince and the Show Girl” (1957)

My column this week covered Laurence Olivier’s The Prince and the Showgirl, which co-starred and co-produced by Marilyn Monroe. The film is hardly memorable, but since My Week with Marilyn is due out soon and covers the film’s production, I thought it might be a good idea to cover it. Hopefully My Week With Marilyn sheds light on the making of the film, which might be more enjoyable than the film itself. Warner Bros. owns The Prince and the Showgirl, but the DVD is out of print. Even when My Weekend With Marilyn opens, Warner probably is not going to rush to make this available. It always airs on Turner Classic Movies, which is the best way to experience this little mediocre curiosity starring two of the 20th Century’s best actors.
