“Blackmail” (1929)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
British International Pictures
UK, 84 minutes
Starring Anny Ondra, John Longden, Cyril Ritchard

There is not much to say about this film other than it’s really fun to watch Hitchcock, even at this early stage of his career. This was actually his first sound film – and the first in Britain. It shows its age considerably, but it’s still good, particularly the last half hour. Blackmail is one of a number of Hitchcock’s early British films that are available on Hulu from Scott Entertainment and they are all from the public domain. You can watch it here.
